The Akron Aeros swept the Erie SeaWolves in Tuesday night’s doubleheader at Canal Park.
Akron upped the Eastern League’s best record to 21-8 with 1-0 and 4-1 victories. Erie not only squandered its latest chance at a three-game winning streak, but dropped to 13-17 with its two seven-inning losses.
Aeros pitchers T.J. House and Matt Langwell blanked the SeaWolves on two hits for their shutout in the opener. Erie’s Kelvin De La Cruz, who formerly pitched for Akron, took the complete-game loss even though he only allowed five hits.
The second game saw the Aeros score all their runs in the first inning off SeaWolves starter James Avery. Jordan Lennerton drove in Erie’s lone run with a fourth-inning double.
Because of Monday’s postponement, Tuesday’s doubleheader comprised the first two games of the three the teams will now play in a 24-hour span. Wednesday’s series finale was originally scheduled for 10:35 a.m.
