The Erie SeaWolves knew they’d have to overcome the Eastern League’s most successful pitcher in order to extend their six-game winning streak.

It became all the more dire when Akron hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to open Tuesday’s game.

The Aeros’ Tim Fedroff, Juan Diaz and Jared Goedert each went deep amid the first seven pitches thrown by Erie starter Zack Segovia. That lightning-quick deficit, combined with the effort of Aeros’ left-hander T.J. McFarland, allowed them to enjoy an easy 8-1 victory at Jerry Uht Park.

The outcome left the SeaWolves 19-18 and denied them the chance to match their longest win streak for all of the 2011 season. Akron, which ended its own four-game losing streak, remained atop the league’s Western Division at 23-13.

McFarland blanked Erie on three hits over seven innings. He walked none and struck out six to become the league’s first seven-game winner.

Goedert bloated one of the league’s best batting averages to .383 thanks to a 4-for-4 effort comprised of two homers, a double and a single. The left fielder accounted for all but two of Akron’s runs

Ben Guez spoiled the Aeros’ shutout bid with his ninth-inning homer off reliever Mason Radeke. Brandon Douglas and Guez were the only SeaWolves who reached base more than once.
