The Erie SeaWolves’ bullpen almost unraveled after Ramon Garcia tied up Akron for the first five innings of Wednesday morning’s Eastern League game at Canal Park.

Garcia shut out the Aeros on four hits over that span, then had to endure the hosts’ comeback from the dugout. However, reliever Michael Morrison pitched well enough over the last two innings to record a save and preserve Erie’s 7-5 victory.

Because of Monday’s rain out, Wednesday’s game was the third time the teams played in a 24-hour span. The Aeros (21-9) still won the series over Erie (14-17) because of Tuesday night’s doubleheader sweep.

The SeaWolves staked Garcia to a 7-0 lead thanks to two three-run innings sandwiched around a single score in the top of the fifth. Brandon Douglas and John Murrian each drove in two runs over that span.

Rob Brantly and Ben Guez each had two hits amid Erie’s total of 11, with Guez scoring twice.

Akron lost despite two home runs Nick Weglarz and another from Adam Abraham.

Erie returns to Jerry Uht Park for a seven-game home stand that starts Thursday against Altoona.
