Friday night saw the Erie SeaWolves squeeze a game’s worth of hits into one inning against the Eastern League’s best pitcher.
Erie opened the bottom of the fourth with seven consecutive hits off Akron’s T.J. McFarland, who sought to become the league’s first nine-game winner. Niuman Romero’s two-run triple and Wade Gaynor’s rally-capping, three-run home run highlighted the hosts’ outburst.
The SeaWolves made those seven runs hold up for a 7-3 victory over the Aeros in the opener of the teams’ Memorial Day weekend series at Jerry Uht Park. Erie is back even at 23-23 in the league’s Western Division, with the Aeros still in first at 28-17.

Gaynor homered in his first game since Thursday’s promotion from Single-A Lakeland (Fla.). Romero’s run-scoring triple was his league-best 59th hit.
Although Erie starter Ramon Garcia is only 3-3, all three of his victories have come against the Aeros since May 9. Garcia went the first 6 1/3 innings, and struck out seven.
Robbie Weinhardt recorded his third save in relief of Garcia. Weinhardt ended a run that saw Erie squander save opportunities in its previous three games.
