Scouting report: Players to watch for the Altoona Curve

They’re fireworks at Jerry Uht Park tonight, but there are players to keep an eye on for the Erie SeaWolves’ opponent, too.

I highlighted some players to watch for the Altoona Curve at the end of April. You can check that list out here.

Before the series ends Sunday, check out relievers Duke Welker and Tim Alderson. They each have three saves.

Welker, who is hard to miss standing 6 feet 7 inches, 260 pounds, is 1-1 with a 2.76 ERA. He has 12 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. He is on the Pirates’ 40-man roster. Alderson, who is 6-6, 217, is 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA. He has 14 Ks in 16 innings.

And while I mentioned Tony Sanchez in the last post, don’t forget that he’s a former No. 1 pick (fourth overall in 2009) by the Pirates. Sanchez was 0-for-5 Friday night, ending his 19-game on-base streak.
