SeaWolves-Aeros postponed, DH Monday

Sunday’s Eastern League game between the Akron Aeros and the Erie SeaWolves at Jerry Uht Park was postponed because of inclement weather. The teams will now play a Memorial Day doubleheader, with the first seven-inning game at 1:35 p.m.

Erie remains 24-23 in the Eastern League’s Western Division, with first-place Akron at 28-18.

Monday’s doubleheader between the SeaWolves and the Aeros will be their second this month. The teams met twice May 8 at Canal Park, with Akron sweeping via 1-0 and 4-1 victories.

The doubleheader also will be Erie’s first at Uht Park since sweeping Trenton last Aug. 16. It was the last of six the SeaWolves completed during their 2011 season, and their fourth at home.

To date, Erie has two other doubleheaders scheduled for consecutive Friday’s in July. The team plays two at Binghamton July 13 and two at Altoona July 20.

Online voting runs through June 24 for the Eastern League All-Star Game in Reading. The best from the Western Division will take on the Eastern Division’s best July 11 at FirstEnergy Stadium.

That same night, former SeaWolves like Justin Henry, currently with the Toledo Mud Hens, have the chance to be voted into the 25th annual Triple-A All-Star Game, scheduled July 11 in Buffalo. The International League’s elite will face those from the Pacific Coast League in the silver anniversary game at Coca-Cola Field.

Toledo went into Sunday night’s game at the Pawtucket (R.I.) Red Sox with a 24-25 record in the International League’s West Division.

The Single-A Lakeland Flying Tigers were an even 24-24 in the Florida State League after Sunday’s 4-0 victory over the visiting Tampa Yankees. Pitcher Luis Angel Sanz and Matt Crouse cominbed on the eight-hit shutout.

Nick Castellanos maintained his .400 batting average with a single, a double and two walks for the Flying Tigers. Detroit’s first-round pick in the 2010 amateur draft is hitting .414 going into Lakeland’s idle Memorial Day.
