It’s time for baseball’s draft

Baseball’s amateur draft doesn’t get the hype of the NFL, but don’t fault MLB for trying.

The draft will be divided into three days: the first round on Monday, rounds 2-15 Tuesday, and 16-40 Wednesday.

A preview of Monday’s draft is scheduled for 6 p.m. on MLB Network. The draft begins at 7.

The Pirates pick eighth overall and the Indians 15th. The Tigers’ first pick isn’t until No. 91.

Baseball America’s mock draft has the Pirates taking Max Fried, a left-handed pitcher from Harvard-Westlake High School in Studio City, Calif.

BA’s has the Tribe selecting Clemson third baseman Richie Shaffer.

MLB.com also has a mock draft. Here’s what they say about their projected Pirates’ pick, Max Fried:

The Pirates have shown they like good young arms and Fried is one of the best this year.

On Cleveland’s pick, MLB.com thinks like BA and projects Shaffer:

The Indians would likely be happy if Shaffer and his power bat were still around at this point.
