Kickham begins Erie’s new scoreless streak

The Erie SeaWolves ended one long scoreless streak Saturday, only to have Richmond’s Mike Kickham help create another.

Kickham pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout for the Flying Squirrels, who blanked Erie 5-0 at The Diamond. The game was shortened to seven innings because the teams first had to finish Friday’s suspended game, won by the SeaWolves 3-2.

Saturday’s results left Erie 26-28 and Richmond at 26-30.

Kickham struck out eight and walked one during his dominant performance. The SeaWolves’ only hits were singles by Jamie Johnson in the third and Rawley Bishop in the seventh.

The Squirrels scored all their runs off pitcher James Avery, who sought to become Erie’s first six-game winner. Tommy Joseph paced the hosts with two hits and two runs scored.

Erie and Richmond play their series tiebreaker Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
