Former Erie SeaWolf Jacob Turner will make a spot start for the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. Turner will square off against Kyle Lohse of the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:05 p.m. The move comes after Detroit manager Jim Leyland wanted to give Doug Fister one extra day of rest before starting Friday.
Turner was in a three-man battle for the final rotation spot in Detroit during spring training. A shoulder injury took him out of the running, but Turner has been impressive in the minors this spring. Between Class A Lakeland and Class AAA Toledo, Turner is 3-3 with a 2.83 ERA in 11 starts. He has 44 strikeouts and opponents are hitting .224 against him in 632/3 innings.
