All-Surprise team worthy of debate

With the All-Star break at hand, now’s the perfect time to unveil my All-Surprise team from the first half of the MLB season:

C: Carlos Ruiz, Phillies — .350, 13 HR, 46 RBIs. Best hitting catcher out there.

1B: Adam Dunn, White Sox — .208-25-61. Yeah, there’s  the average, but look at the other numbers.

2B: Jason Kipnis, Indians — .277-11-49-20 steals. What’s not to like?

3B: Trevor Plouffe, Twins — .254-19-36. Who honestly drafted him?

SS: Jed Lowrie, Astros –.254-14-36. I’ve liked him from his Red Sox days.

OF: Melky Cabrera, Giants — .353-8-44-10. The average came out of nowhere.

OF: Mike Trout, Angels — .341-12-40-26. MVP and Rookie of the Year?

OF: Josh Reddick, A’s — .268-20-43-8. Surprising source of power for Oakland.

DH: David Ortiz, Red Sox –.312-22-57.  Big Papi still can hit.

SP: R.A. Dickey, Mets — 12-1, 2.40 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 123 Ks in 120 IP. The magic of the knuckleball.

SP: Chris Sale, White Sox — 10-2, 2.19 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 98 Ks in 102.2 IP.

SP: Chris Capuano, Dodgers — 9-1, 2.91 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 100 Ks in 111.1 IP. Looks great after being on the scrap heap.

RP: Fernando Rodney, Rays — 0.93 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, 25 saves.

RP: Ernesto Frieri, Angels — 0.71 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 11 saves, 63 Ks in 38 IP.

Who would you add to the list?
