Scouting report: Players to watch for the Harrisburg Senators

The Erie SeaWolves begin a key three-game series with the Harrisburg Senators tonight.

The SeaWolves trail the second-place Senators by 3.5 games in the Eastern League’s Western Division.

Erie enters the series after taking two of three from the first-place Akron Aeros.

If you’re heading to Jerry Uht Park, you can expect to see Harrisburg attempting to steal plenty of bases since the Senators have two good prospects with speed to spare.

Outfielder Eury Perez had 45 steals last season at Class-A Potomac and 64 in 2010 at Class-A Hagerstown. He has 26 steals so far.

Infielder Jeff Kobernus has 32 stolen bases this season after racking up 53 last year at Potomoc. He had 42 at Hagerstown in 2010.

There are some other players to watch as well. Ryan Perry, Sunday’s starter, is on the Nats’ 40-man roster, as is catcher Sandy Leon (.333 average) and Perez.

Perry played for the Detroit Tigers in 2009-11 and appeared in seven games with the Nationals this season. The 6-4 , right-handed pitcher has made three starts for the Senators this season. He’s 0-1 with a 2.31 ERA.

Destin Hood (6-1, 225) is an athletic outfielder that has power and speed. He hit 18 home runs and had 83 RBIs last season at Potomac. He also had 21 stolen bases.
