Speedster reaches 100 stolen bases
If you haven’t heard of Billy Hamilton, you will one day. Hamilton, a shortstop for the Bakersfield Blaze, stole two bases Monday to reach 100 for this season. Yes, 100 stolen bases in only 78 games. Bakersfield is a Class A advanced team in the Cincinnati Reds organization. Hamilton was a second-round pick by the Reds in 2009 and has been invited to the Futures game on Sunday.
Hamilton is hitting .327 this season with 74 runs scored and 29 RBIs. He has stolen 100 bases and has been caught 21 times. Hamilton’s tremendous season includes four stolen bases on June 23 and three the following game. Since 2009, Hamilton has 265 stolen bases, including 48 in 2010 and 103 last year.
