Nationals promote Rendon to Harrisburg

The Erie SeaWolves seem to keep running into top prospects lately. The Washington Nationals promoted Anthony Rendon to Class AA Harrisburg on Tuesday. Erie will host Harrisburg on Friday for a three-game series. Rendon, a third baseman, was picked sixth overall by the Nationals in the 2011 draft. He was the 19th overall prospect entering the season according to Baseball America and is the No. 1 prospect in the Washington organization according to MLB Prospect Watch.

Rendon spent most of spring training with the Nationals before a severe ankle injury put him on the DL until July. He is hitting .308 this season with three home runs and nine RBIs in 22 games this season. Rendon has worked his way through three levels and is becoming an option for a September call-up.

Erie begins a quick four-game road trip in Bowie tonight before heading back to Jerry Uht Park on Friday for six games.
