Kelly a hero for Tigers

Former SeaWolves utility player Don Kelly drove in the winning run for the Detroit Tigers in Sunday afternoon’s American League Division Series game against Oakland at Comerica Park.

Kelly, who played for Erie between 2003-06, lofted a sacrifice fly to right-center field off Athletics reliever Grant Balfour in the bottom of the ninth. Omar Infante, another former SeaWolves infielder, scored the decisive run that gave the Tigers a 5-4 victory and a 2-0 lead in the teams’ best-of-five series.

Detroit can go for a sweep when the third game takes place Tuesday night at Oakland. The Athletics will host the remainder of the series.
