Pirates release pitcher van den Hurk

The Pittsburgh Pirates released pitcher Rick van den Hurk Saturday. The team announced on its Twitter page the move was made so van den Hurk could sign with a foreign team.

Van den Hurk had been on the 40-man roster. The move likely could signal an official signing of Francisco Liriano.
