228-game losing streak ends in college baseball

Think you’ve followed some teams that have had some long  losing streaks?

Imagine if you were a fan of the California Institute of Technology’s baseball team.

The entered Saturday with a 228-game losing streak.

That’s right, 228 games. That’s almost a decade’s worth of losses without one win.

Well, Caltech, a school that plays mostly Division III games, broke through with a 9-7 win over Pacifica, ending that dreaded streak.

The Associated Press reported that Caltech’s last win was Feb. 15, 2003.

Some other nuggets of losing from Caltech from the AP:

Caltech has not won a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game since 1988 — a span of 463 games.

Caltech’s men’s basketball team ended a 310-game conference losing streak in 2011

The women’s volleyball team ended a 56-match  losing streak last year.

I guess the athletes pick Caltech for something other than the athletic programs.

So, the next time you think your favorite team has it bad, think of Caltech.
