As a Pirate fan, I hate to say it, but the man (Nutting) appears to be delusional. A team that ripped up their clubhouse in mid-season last year and dropped off the planet in the standings adds a number of low budget free agents that have struggled recently (for example-he mentions Russell Martin, the catcher they just signed for $8 million, who hit .211 last year), trades away their closer, and they’re going to contend for a CHAMPIONSHIP??? (Insert Jim Mora quot here-PLAYOFFS?). I will believe it when I see it, and I don’t thk we’ll see it anyime soon, certainly not while Neil Huntington is making the personnel decisions.
