It was a rough first week for pitchers. A bunch of starters got lit up Sunday night, likely causing panic among roto owners seeing their ERA and WHIPs climb into Everest-like heights.
If you have an ace, it’s probably best to stay the course.
But, if you have some struggling relievers, check out some of the names below:
Kyuji Fujikawa, Cubs: New closer. This was going to happen sooner or later. It was sooner.
Hyun-Jin Ryu: My choice for NL Rookie of the Year. Got his first win against the Pirates.
Jim Henderson, Brewers: How long can John Axford continue to hold the job as closer?
Kelvin Herrera, Royals: Like Axford, Greg Holland has struggled early. Herrera should be the guy soon.
Jose Valverde, Tigers: They didn’t sign him to have him be a setup guy.
OK, enough with the pitchers. Here are some hitters:
Geraldo Parra, OF, D’backs: Lead-off batter. Steals. Power. Runs. Get him.
John Buck, C, Mets: Got off to a great start. If he’s available in two-catcher leagues, you should roster him.
Jackie Bradley Jr., OF, Red Sox: Rookie hit 3 HRs in first week.
Trevor Plouffe, 3B, Twins: Good pickup if you have A-Ram at 3B on the DL.
Matt Carpenter, 1B, Cards: Not a flash namey, but he can produce.
