Let’s take a look and see how my predictions have fared for these best-of-7, first-round NBA playoff series.
(1) Cleveland vs. (8) Detroit
Prediction: Cavaliers in 5.
Final result: Cavaliers in 4.
Closing remark: Detroit never had a chance against Cleveland, which played like the top seed in this year’s playoffs in sweeping the Pistons with relative ease.
(4) Atlanta vs. (5) Miami
Prediction: Heat in 6.
Still in progress: Atlanta leads the series, 3-2, heading into Friday’s Game 6 at Miami. The winner will face Cleveland in the conference semifinals.
Why: Dwyane Wade’s back spasms have literally hurt the Heat.
(3) Orlando vs. (6) Philadelphia
Prediction: Magic in 5.
Final result: Magic in 6.
Closing remark: The Orlando Magic are just a better team, which showed in them clinching the series without Dwight Howard, who was suspended for Game 6 after clocking Samuel Dalembert with an elbow in Game 5.
(2) Boston vs. (7) Chicago
Prediction: Celtics in 6.
Still in progress: The Bulls forced a Game 7 (Saturday night) after beating the Celtics in triple overtime, 128-127, Thursday night in Chicago. The winner will face Orlando in the conference semifinals.
Why: Not having Kevin Garnett has hurt the Celtics, but the Bulls are playing out their minds right now.
(1) L.A. Lakers vs. (8) Utah
Prediction: Lakers in 5.
Final result: Lakers in 5.
Closing remark: Lakers made it look too easy.
(4) Portland vs. (5) Houston
Prediction: Rockets in 6.
Final result: Rockets in 6. They will face the Lakers in the conference semifinals.
Closing remark: The Rockets finally make it out the first round for the first time since 1997.
(3) San Antonio vs. (6) Dallas
Prediction: Mavericks in 6.
Final result: Mavericks in 5.
Closing remark: With older legs and no Manu Ginobili, the Spurs couldn’t keep up with Dallas.
(2) Denver vs. (7) New Orleans
Prediction: Hornets in 6.
Final result: Nuggets in 5. Denver will play Dallas in the conference semifinals.
Closing remark: Although I knew Denver had the better team in this series, had to stick with my preseason prediction of the Hornets winning it all till the end. Some prediction.
