Cavaliers introduce Chris Grant as their new GM

Here’s the first of three parts of the Cleveland Cavaliers introducing Chris Grant as their new general manager. Grant is replacing Danny Ferry, who officially resigned Friday.

In this first segment, Grant talked about how they’re talking to candidates (Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo seems to be atop the list) and said the Cavs have a “plan” to resign LeBron James.

However, the biggest statement made came from team majority owner Dan Gilbert, who at the 7-minute mark of this clip says, “Of all the things that have been written and all the false things, the craziness, and some of these characters on Yahoo! type at 3 in the morning doing whatever it is they do and making stuff up, you know, the concept that LeBron James has been involved in any way shape or form of firing our head coach, involved in the transition of general manager to Chris Grant (and) will be involved in future coaching decisions and hires is totally 100 percent and patently false. And it’s unfair to him. It’s unfair to the franchise.”

In the second segment, Gilbert interrupts Grant again, but Grant talked about making playoff push. The Izzo situation was revisited. Gilbert said he and Grant are talking about adjusting his own contract.

In this final segment, Gilbert talked about Brown in terms of Brown’s regular-season record doesn’t carry the same weight of winning a championship. Says he doesn’t want to cheat fans. Gilbert joked and said, “This is Chris Grant’s press conference.” Gilbert said he wouldn’t share what he and LeBron James has talked about in terms of how James looked emotionally at the end of Cleveland’s playoffs run.
