The following eight players have been invited to the Erie BayHawks’ training camp that begins Saturday, Nov. 6 at the LECOM Medical Fitness & Wellness Center in Erie.
The BayHawks can have up to 17 players in training camp. Erie opens the 2010-11 season Nov. 19 against Springfield at Tullio Arena.
▀ PG Cedric Jackson – Averaged 16.4 points and 7.4 assists in 34 games for the BayHawks as a rookie last season, The 6-foot, 3-inch, Jackson, 24, received NBA call ups from the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards.
▀ PG Maureece Rice – Avg. 18.7 points to help Erie make the D-League playoffs in its expansion season in 2008-09. Erie tried to get the 6-1 combo guard last season, but Rice, 26, couldn’t get out of his contract with a team in the Ukraine. The Philadelphia native was an exciting player for Erie and was really the difference in the BayHawks making the playoffs.
▀ SF Tasmin Mitchell – The undrafted rookie out of LSU was a training camp invite of the Cleveland Cavaliers this season, but didn’t make the team. Erie acquired the 6-7, 240-pound Mitchell, 24, through the new league allocation rule in which a D-League team can get a player its NBA affiliate cuts during its training camp.
▀ SG Charlie Parker – A former Millersville standout, the 6-4 Parker, 25, averaged 6.8 points as rookie in 2008-09 in the D-League with the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Played just three games for the D-Fenders last season. The D-Fenders are taking a season off. Parker, a two-time PSAC East Player of the Year, tried out for the BayHawks at their open tryout in Cleveland this year.
▀ SF Frank Tolbert – Joined Erie during last season. The 6-5 Tolbert, 24, averaged 6.1 points in 18 games (started seven) for Erie. The BayHawks released Tolbert on March 19 of last season due to medical reasons. A day later, Jackson returned from his 10-day contract with the Spurs.
▀ F Jarvis Gunter. Has been with Erie for its first two seasons in the D-League. The 6-10 Gunter, 25, has averaged 2.9 points in 82 career games for Erie.
▀ PF Kyle Goldcamp – A former standout at Gannon, the 6-10 Goldcamp, 24, averaged 3.3 points and three rebounds as a rookie last season with the BayHawks.
▀ F Nate Linhart – Participated in Erie’s open tryout in Cleveland last month. After finishing his college career at Akron, the 6-8 Linhart, 23, played overseas last season in Austria and averaged 11 points and four rebounds in 44 games. For those who might not remember Linhart, he’s the one who got punched in the gut in a game against Kent State in the 2008-09 season.
