Former BayHawk power forward  Alade Aminu will play for the Atlanta Hawks. Danny Green, who played two games for Erie last season, will see action this summer with his team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, while Darnell Jackson, who has played for the BayHawks while with their NBA affiliate, the Cavaliers, is with the Bucks.

BayHawks coach John Treloar is expected to work as an assistant for the Cavaliers.

Latavious Williams became the first player to go from high school to the D-League to the NBA. Has he started a trend?

1. D-League rookie power forward Latavious Williams was drafted by the Miami Heat in the second round, but was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The move makes sense because the Thunder are Tulsa’s lone NBA affiliate as they own the D-League franchise. The 6-8 Williams was set to go to Memphis coming out of high school, but didn’t qualify academically.

So after failed attempts to go overseas, Williams went to the D-League where he was a first-round pick in 2009. Since his high school graduating class has been out of school a year, Williams became eligible for the NBA Draft.

In the D-League this past season, he averaged 7.7 points and shot 52.8 percent from the field in 47 regular-season games for the 66ers. In eight playoff games, Williams put up 11.3 points a game and shot 6.12 percent from the field.

2. The Los Angeles Clippers drafted forward Al-Farouq-Aminu with the eighth overall pick. The Wake Forest star is the younger brother of Alade Aminu, who was a D-League rookie All-Star this past season.

Alade played for the Erie BayHawks before being traded to Bakersfield for guard Blake Ahearn. Aminu finished his season in the NBA with the Miami Heat.

Averaging 27.1 points and 10.5 boards, Mike Harris was a man on the inside for Rio Grande Valley this season.

I’m sitting here looking at the All-NBA D-League teams and that first-team squad is nice, but then I checked out the honorable mention list.

Hmmmm.

I could pick five guys from that list and seriously challenge the first team.

Aminu has averaged 19.3 points and 9.2 boards in his nine games with Bakersfield since Erie traded him for Blake Ahearn.

The Sun Sentinel out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is reporting former Erie BayHawk Alade Aminu will make his NBA debut with the Miami Heat on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors.

Aminu, an All-Star D-League power forward who was traded to Bakersfield for guard Blake Ahearn, will be on a 10-day contract with the Heat. Out of Georgia Tech, Aminu was in Miami’s training camp last fall.

I got in touch with Aminu on Friday morning and he confirmed the news to me then. Then later that night after the BayHawks beat Fort Wayne, I talked with Erie rookie point guard Cedric Jackson about it.

“He sent me a text message the other day at like 2 o’clock in the morning,” said Jackson, who has received two NBA call-ups this season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs.

“I’m like, OK. He said, ‘I’m going to call you tomorrow.’ I know he was excited. I told him I was extremely proud of him. Just told him to work hard and make sure he focuses and do what he do because that’s where he belongs.”

The Erie BayHawks have won four in a row with the latest win being a 116-102 victory at Idaho against the Stampede on Saturday night.

Former NBA first-round pick, Mike Sweetney, made his Erie debut and had 19 points and nine rebounds in 23 minutes and 57 seconds. Guess the big fella didn’t slow down Erie’s offense as I figured he would.

 My bad.

Looks like Kyle Goldcamp is still starting for the BayHawks, but the key to this run is the play of Blake Ahearn and Mike Gansey. The two were at it again Saturday, scoring a combined 54 points.

Ahearn had 28 points. Gansey had 26. Add John Bryant’s 24 points and 16 rebounds and you got three guys who have been putting up huge numbers since Erie traded Alade Aminu to Bakersfield for Ahearn.

The subplot to this game was Erie’s first-round pick, Donell Taylor, playinga against his former team. Taylor, who was traded to Idaho for Gansey, didn’t play Saturday night. He also didn’t play in Idaho’s previous game.

Too bad.

Here's Mike Sweetney in this season's training camp with the Boston Celtics.

I saw this guy when he was at Georgetown years ago when I was a beat writer for The Dominion Post in Morgantown, W.Va.

Big wide body. Space eater. Score a ton (seventh on Georgetown’s all-time career scoring list at 1,750 points).

Michael Sweetney was an effective college player, but after being the ninth overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, his pro career fizzled. Sweetney only averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 boards in 233 games and with two teams in the Knicks and the Chicago Bulls.

Now he’s going to attempt to rekindle his career in the D-League.

Hmmmm.

The BayHawks are filling the roster void left by rookie point guard Cedric Jackson, who signed a 10-day contract with the San Antonio Spurs earlier this week.

Since All-Star point guard Tony Parker will be out six weeks with a broken right  hand for the Spurs, San Antonio will likely keep Jackson for at least two 10-day contracts and might keep him for the remainder of the season.

Rob Kurz (shooting) and Alade Aminu were traded for each other on draft day. Both played in the All-Star game.

Erie made its third trade this season in shipping D-League All-Star rookie power forward Alade Aminu to Bakersfield for shooting guard Blake Ahearn, a 2009 league All-Star.

Here’s a look at how players in the two previous trades have fared this season.
