Erik Daniels hit a 3-pointer with 26.3 seconds left in lifting the Erie BayHawks to a 82-80 win in their home opener Saturday night before a sellout crowd of 4,951 at Erie Insurance Arena.

A first-round pick of the BayHawks in their 2008-09 expansion season, Daniels also played for Erie in 2010-11 before returning for a third stint earlier this week. The BayHawks were down by as many as 15 points before avenging a 91-80 loss at Canton on Friday night.

Henry Sims scored a team-high 19 points to lead the BayHawks (2-1).  Keith Benson chipped in 13 points while D.J. Kennedy and Oscar Bellfield each had 12. Kyle Gibson scored a game-high 28 points for the Charge (1-4) with 17 coming in the first half.

Erie returns to action Thursday night against the Maine Red Claws.

Here’s a quick look at who the Erie BayHawks picked in Friday’s 2012 D-League Draft. The BayHawks drafted Alex Ruoff in the second round. The BayHawks start training camp Nov. 10.

Second round — Alex Ruoff  (6-6, 220, SG, WVU)
Date of birth: Aug. 29, 1986
Hometown: Spring Hill, Fla.
Background: Has played overseas in Belgium since finishing his senior year at WVU in 2008-09. Tore his ACL in November of last year playing overseas.  Averaged 15.7 points his senior year at WVU. Finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 261.
