Here’s what LeBron  James had to say before tonight’s game between the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena.

This is the second time James has played in Cleveland for the Heat since he decided to leave the Cavaliers last summer to play in Miami. The Heat beat the Cavaliers, 118-90, Dec. 2 and James had 38 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded the tough, but troubled Delonte West.

Very interesting trade here.

In their attempt to rebuild after losing LeBron James in free agency, the Cleveland Cavaliers have traded gritty, but troubled combo guard Delonte West and young  journeyman guard Sebastian Telfair to the Minnesota Timberwolves for guard Ramon Sessions, center Ryan Hollins and Minnesota’s second round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

The Cavaliers officially announced the trade about a hour ago.

First off, big ups to my man Marc Spears at Yahoo! Sports for getting that out there to the masses. He just tweeted a few minutes ago the Timberwolves will waive West and trade Telfair.

Hmmm. If true, that’s sad, particularly for West.

For Cleveland, it’s all good on a variety of levels. The Cavaliers rid themselves of West, who for all his toughness on the court, was shaky off it. He just plead guilty to weapons charges dating back to last summer when he got caught with those guns. He isn’t going to jail, but will be on house detention.

So for the Cavaliers to get that burden off their neck can only help them. I interviewed West several times and he was always open and honest with me. You hope he does get it together.

The Cleveland Cavaliers just announced point guard Delonte West won’t play in tonight’s game at Miami against the Heat as he is out with a fractured left ring finger.

That can only mean one thing.

Cedric Jackson will play again tonight.

The Cavaliers signed Erie BayHawk rookie point guard to a 10-day contract Saturday after losing West to the injury he sustained in Thursday’s win against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Cavaliers are also without starting point guard Mo Williams, who is out with a left shoulder sprain.

Jackson played just two minutes, 2 seconds in Saturday’s win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but  may see more time tonight.

After watching the Erie BayHawks lose to Rio Grande Valley, 110-88, Friday night without their rookie point guard Cedric Jackson, I came up with a few conclusions.

Now Jackson received an NBA call up with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are an NBA affiliate of the BayHawks. This is the first time the Cavs have plucked a player from Erie as they are an NBA affiliate of the BayHawks.

Erie rookie point guard Cedric Jackson is averaging 27 points and nine assists in his last five games.

Erie BayHawks rookie point guard Cedric Jackson confirmed Friday that he will sign a 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday.

Jackson is already in Cleveland and will not play for the BayHawks on Friday night against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at Tullio Arena.
“It’s truly a dream come true,” Jackson said.

In his last five games, Jackson has averaged 27 points and nine assists for the BayHawks. He scored a career-high 34 in a loss to Austin on Tuesday.

The BayHawks (10-13) are playing tonight against Rio Grande Valley Vipers while the Cavaliers play at home Saturday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

With Cleveland starting point guard Mo Williams out with a shoulder injury and back up Delonte West getting diagnosed with a fractured left ring finger after injuring it against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night, the move seems logical for the Cavaliers to pick up Jackson.

Mo Williams is projected to be out four to six weeks with a shoulder sprain.

The Cavaliers will play tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers without 2009 All-Star guard Mo Williams, who is out with a shoulder sprain. Here’s the latest injury report from the Cavaliers.

Cavaliers guard Mo Williams suffered a left shoulder sprain during Tuesday night’s game versus Toronto at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. He was examined by Cavaliers Head Team Physician Dr. Richard Parker and the Cleveland Clinic’s Dr. Mark Schickendantz. Williams also received a MRI at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health, the results of which confirmed the sprain. Williams is currently projected to be out for the next four to six weeks. His status will be updated as appropriate.

Looks like Williams is going to be out longer than tonight, huh.

james-speaks

These things are always entertaining.

LeBron James spoke for about 10 minutes before the game to media. Now you’ve got national media here like ESPN and of course TNT is covering the game so there’s plenty of folks to ask last season’s MVP questions.

Some of them are good. Others are weird. Some made James respond, “Ya’ll want to know every damn thing. man. Damn. I’m just saying, dang. You can’t have no secrets.”

Here’s a few examples:

Good evening

Here in Cleveland getting ready for what feels like a playoff game.

It’s only the opener, but a serious buzz is running through Quicken Loans Arena for tonight’s game between the Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics.

Just some quick bits.

Cleveland guard Delonte West is out for today’s game. As you know, West’s wife filed a domestic violence report on him Monday. He was already facing bi-polar issues and the weapons charge.

That’s  a lot on that young man’s plate to deal with. He is in the arena, is dressed and will warm up with the team, but will not play. Who knows when he will go. It’s a sad situation really.

Be back in minute.

Final score: Cleveland Cavaliers 112, Orlando Magic 102

Magic Cavaliers Basketball

Mo Williams helped out LeBron James and the Cavaliers by scoring 24 points in Cleveland's Game 5 win.

Analysis: In winning Game 5 to stay alive in this Eastern Conference finals series, the Cavs made key adjustments. At the same time, LeBron James delivered another epic performance by posting a triple-double. He also got plenty of perimeter help from Mo Williams (24 points, 6-of-9 on threes) and Daniel Gibson (3-of-4 on threes).

The go-getter: James came through for the Cavs with 37 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. James accounted for 32 consecutive Cleveland points by either scoring or having an assist (29 consecutive in the fourth). With his team’s back against the wall, the league MVP took over.
The brick-layer: Just as he did in Game 2, Rafer Alston (Orlando) vanished. He shot 1-of-10 from the field overall, going 1-of-7 from 3-point range. The scary part about all this is Alston, who scored 26 points in Orlando’s Game 4 win, made his first shot Thursday only to miss his last nine.
The stunning stats: Orlando is known for its 3-point shooting, but Cleveland not only made one three than the Magic (9-to-8), but also shot a higher percentage (50 percent to 32 percent) from long range.
The play: With Cavaliers leading by six with 2:22 remaining in the game, James drove the ball at Dwight Howard, made the shot and drew a foul to foul him out. James completed the 3-point play to give Cleveland a 102-93 lead.

What’s next: Game 6 Saturday in Orlando, 8:30 p.m.
What to expect:
The Cavaliers may be without starting two-guard Delonte West, who left the game late in the fourth quarter with a hip pointer. West will likely gut it out, but Orlando knows the Cavaliers are going to go that spread offense in which James gets the ball at the free throw line. How the Magic adjust to that will play a major role in what happens in Game 6.

The Cleveland Cavaliers do.

APTOPIX Nuggets Lakers Basketball

Shannon Brown has never lacked the ability to play the game. He's just found a home in Los Angeles.

They drafted Shannon Brown in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft out of Michigan State.

He was supposed to be the big, off guard to complement LeBron James. I really thought Brown had star potential in the NBA because he’s athletic, can shoot the three and came from a college program that stresses defense.

Cleveland ended up trading him to Chicago last season. After the Bulls released Brown, he signed with Charlotte, which traded him to Los Angeles where he has become key reserve.

His second-half dunk over Chris “Birdman” Andersen gave the Lakers an emotional jolt in their Game 5 win Wednesday night.

I look at Brown’s size (6-foot-4, 211 pounds) and wonder how much he could help Cleveland against Orlando. Brown could guard Mickael Pietrus and would do a better job in defending Hedo Turkoglu than Delonte West is doing.

Just food for thought.
