Erie BayHawks combo guard Demonte Harper didn’t play for Sean Woods.

So he was never subject to the outbursts Woods has had on the sidelines at Morehead State. Last week, he and the nation saw Woods erupt on Devon Atkinson during an 81-70 loss at Kentucky.

Before this, Morehead State had become known for pulling off upsets in the NCAA Tournament and Kenneth Faried, who has become an impact player with the Denver Nuggets.

In fact, Harper hit a game winner to beat Louisville in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, but he’s confident the Woods’ situation won’t disrupt the program. Woods is in his first season at Morehead State.

“It is what it is,” said Harper, who ended his career at Morehead State in 2010-11. “Everybody makes mistakes. He just happened to make a mistake on national TV. I don’t think it’s going to cause too much harm to the program.”

Woods was suspended for a game and returned for Wednesday’s game at Marshall. Morehead State lost, 70-67.

“After a while, once they continue winning, I think all that will go away,” Harper said. “He just made a mistake. Everybody does it. We’re all human. We make mistakes. Hopefully he can learn from it and continue to have success with the school.”

Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol better be up to the challenge of Kendrick Perkins (5) and Serge Ibaka or else./AP Photo.

Denver pushed them to the brink.

The Los Angeles Lakers needed a Game 7 at home and the return of Metta World Peace to outlast the Nuggets and advance to the Western Conference semifinals.

Up next? Durant. Westbrook. Harden.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have their Big 3 – Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden - muscle and shot blocking on the inside and depth at power forward and center positions.

What they don’t have is Kobe Bryant, who in his 16th season is still the game’s best closer.

As great as Bryant is, he’ll need help to get past the Thunder.

Paging Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol.

By the way, watch the elbows World Peace and watch out for them Harden.

Marc Gasol and the Memphis Grizzlies couldn't come back from a 3-1 series deficit to beat the L.A. Clippers./AP Photo.

Not bad. Not bad.

With the Los Angeles Clipppers beating the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 7 Sunday to advance to the Western Conference semifinals, all the first-round series are complete. I finished 6-2 in predicting the first round.

Eastern Conference

(1) Chicago Bulls vs. (8) Philadelphia 76ers.
Prediction: Bulls in 5
Outcome: Sixers in 6.
What happpened: Derrick Rose got hurt. Joakim Noah got hurt. Bulls didn’t have enough.

(2) Miami Heat vs. (7) New York Knicks
Prediction: Heat in 6
Outcome: Heat in 5
What happened: Knicks not ready as a team to seriously challenge Miami.

(3) Indiana Pacers vs. (6) Orlando Magic
Prediction: Pacers in 5
Outcome: Pacers in 5
What happened: Without Dwight Howard, Magic had no shot to win this series.

(1). San Antonio Spurs (50-16)

1st round foe: (8) Utah Jazz (36-30)

Biggest concern vs. Jazz: With big boys Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson, Utah can cause the Spurs problems in the paint.

Last 10: 10-0 (Won 10)

Strengths: The hottest team in the NBA, the Spurs have great chemistry, Tony Parker is playing at a very high level and they’ve got one of game’s best coaches in Gregg Popovich.

Weaknesses: Still wondering if this regular-season success is a product of the schedule? Are they really as good as they appear to be? What happens if Parker gets in foul trouble early?

The Erie BayHawks will have former NBA player Joey Graham for Thursday’s game against expansion Canton. The BayHawks (22-19) got Graham, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, out of the D-League player pool. Graham, 29, also played for the Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets.

Graham’s twin brother, Stephen, is also in the D-League with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

With Joey Graham, Erie has reached its 10-man roster limit, but have only nine players available as forward Sharrod Ford is recovering from a calf injury. At 6-7, 250-pounds, Graham gives Erie an inside presence who can defend and rebound.

Erie BayHawks general manager of basketball operations, Allan Houston, did an interview at halftime of Erie’s 111-88 loss to Austin in the second day of the D-League Showcase in Reno earlier today.

NBATV interviewed Houston, who is also an assistant general manager of the New York Knicks. The Knicks and BayHawks are hybrid partners.

Houston talked about trying to balance his two jobs, the addition of Mike James to the BayHawks and the Knicks.

How do you balance the two and how much time do you dedicate to each one of them? “It’s fun, but it’s a balance. I try to be around the Knicks as much as possible. Be around our team and try to keep understanding the dynamics of the coaching staff and what’s going on, but this is fun because you get to see a lot of players and be familiar with a lot of the players, especially the great talent pool that’s come in so far (to the D-League Showcase). I think the Showcase is great because you see everybody at one time. In a shortened season, it is tough, but you get it done.”

Cory Higgins

Check out Erie BayHawks combo guard Cory Higgins dancing along with three other rookies at the Denver Nuggets scrimmage tonight.

No. 22. Kind of in the background wearing an underneath shirt.

Higgins was one of five BayHawks who was invited to NBA training camps with the other four being Donald Sloan (Atlanta Hawks), Chris Daniels (Los Angeles Lakers), Mychel Thompson (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Kyle Goldcamp (Cleveland).

Thompson played in Cleveland’s preseason win at Detroit on Friday night. He scored three points on 1-of-7 shooting. Goldcamp didn’t play, but his parents made the trek from Pittsburgh to see him play.

Goldcamp is in his third season with the BayHawks after starring at Gannon.

Sloan saw action in a public scrimmage and had five points and three assists. Played solid.

He's in a new uniform, but same foe awaits LeBron James in the NBA playoffs - the Boston Celtics./Photo by AP.

Goodbye Shield. Welcome back logo.

With the NFL Draft ending today, let’s talk NBA Playoffs.

The first round was good. Correction. It was great.

The Memphis Grizzlies stunned everyone except Charles Barkley in beating the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs in six games, the Boston Celtics posted the only sweep in a first-round series and Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Kevin Durant has been the best player in the playoffs so far.

Now the conference semifinals are here. We’ve got the match up everyone wants (Miami Heat vs. the Celtics), the one we didn’t expect (Grizzlies vs. Thunder), the one that will end quickly (Atlanta Hawks vs. the Bulls) and the one that will last longer than it should (Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Dallas Mavericks).

Let’s do this:
