After winning at expansion Canton by 15 points in their regular-season finale, the Erie BayHawks returned to practice today as they get ready for Game 1 of their D-League playoff series against Austin on Thursday night at 7 at Tullio Arena.

Game 2 and Game 3, if necessary, will be Sunday and Monday, respectively, in Austin. A third seed, the Toros (33-17) picked the fifth-seeded BayHawks (28-22) as the top three teams got to select their first-round playoff opponent from the bottom four seeds.

After Monday’s practice, players Tyrone Brazelton, Joey Graham, Keith McLeod and Marvin Phillips talk about the playoff format and being chosen by the Toros.

Erie fell to 1-4 against expansion Canton after Friday’s 114-103 loss to the expansion Charge at Tullio Arena.

Josh Akognon had 23 of his game-high 33 points in the second quarter to help the Charge (27-22) clinch an D-League playoff berth. Akognon, who ESPN’s Mark Stein calls “the best shooter outside the NBA” was 5-of-7 from 3-point range.

Joey Graham led Erie (27-22) with 24 points. The BayHawks will face the Charge in their regular-season finale Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Canton.

The Erie BayHawks will look to avenge last month’s 109-92 loss to the expansion Canton Charge on Friday night at 7 in their regular-season home finale at Tullio Arena.

While the BayHawks (27-21) have already clinched a playoff berth, Canton (26-22) hasn’t. So the Charge come into the game needing wins, but the BayHawks still have a chance to win the East Conference.

After Thursday’s practice, Erie coach Jay Larranaga and players Joey Graham, Mychel Thompson and Kyle Spain talk about facing the Charge.

Joey and Stephen Graham got reacquainted Friday night.

The 29-year old twin brothers are in the D-League and played against each other in Erie’s 103-102 win against Fort Wayne at Tullio Arena. Joey Graham is with the BayHawks while Stephen Graham is with the Mad Ants.

Both played in the NBA. The two will see each other on the court again tonight at 7 at Tullio Arena. It’s the last time Erie and Fort Wayne will play each other this season.

The Erie BayHawks will have former NBA player Joey Graham for Thursday’s game against expansion Canton. The BayHawks (22-19) got Graham, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, out of the D-League player pool. Graham, 29, also played for the Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets.

Graham’s twin brother, Stephen, is also in the D-League with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

With Joey Graham, Erie has reached its 10-man roster limit, but have only nine players available as forward Sharrod Ford is recovering from a calf injury. At 6-7, 250-pounds, Graham gives Erie an inside presence who can defend and rebound.
