Point guard Nick Covington scored 27 points in leading the Erie BayHawks to a 109-100 win tonight at Fort Wayne to open the 2012-13 D-League season. D.J. Kennedy added 21 points and 10 rebounds.
The BayHawks don’t play again until next Friday at Canton.

The Erie BayHawks start their 2012-13 D-League season Friday night at Fort Wayne with a new head coach in Gene Cross. The former Notre Dame assistant replaced Jay Larranaga, who left to become an assistant for the Boston Celtics.

The Erie BayHawks are scheduled to play two preseason games in a six-team jamboree hosted by the Texas Legends this weekend.
A week away from their Nov. 23 season opener at Fort Wayne, the BayHawks play Tulsa today and defending D-League champion Austin on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. EST.
The BayHawks have 13 players on their training camp roster. The D-League affiliate of the New York Knicks must get its roster down to 10 by Nov. 21.

The Erie BayHawks concluded their fifth day of training camp Wednesday at Penn State Behrend. The hybrid D-League affiliate of the New York Knicks opens the 2012-13 season Nov. 23 at Fort Wayne.

On my pre-snap look at the Erie BayHawks’ training camp roster before their first practice Saturday, I saw more than 17 players competing for 10 spots.
With the way the training roster was put together, you could pencil in certain guys to make the final 10-man roster for their season opener Nov. 23 at Fort Wayne.
