These guys are why I love the game of basketball. Here are my 10 favorite players in the league right now.

These are the guys if I had the money to buy NBA authentic jerseys instead of the replicas, these guys would be on my wish list. They not only provide the highlights, but you have to keep your eyes on them every play because the moment you go to grab a slice of pizza, they’ve done something you may never see again.

LeBron James and the Miami Heat head to Los Angeles for a Christmas Day showdown with the Lakers.

The NBA has five games scheduled for Christmas Day with the big one being the Miami Heat taking on the L.A. Lakers in Los Angeles.

You’ve got Miami’s Big 3 going up against the two-time NBA champions with all the celebrities sitting courtside.

By the time that game comes on, I’m might be snoozing after eating my mom’s turkey and dressing, but as long as I wake up by the fourth quarter, I’m good to go.

Anyway, the other four games aren’t too shabby either, but is each one worth missing out on a meal or gift giving? Will you fall asleep on them or fight fatigue to tune in? Here’s how I see the appeal of the five games on a scale from 1-10.

Glen Rice could light it up.

Boy, not putting Wilt Chamberlain on my greatest 1-on-1 players in NBA history caught me some flak.

Good.

Not putting the greatest of all time,  Michael Jordan, atop that list caught me even more flak.

Even better.

I’m trying to make you all think out the box a bit. So today, I’m talking about the guys who jump shot I envied. The guys who when they shot it, you thought it was going to go in 10 times out of 10 because it looked so good coming out of their hands.

Now before I go any further, these guys are not only list: Dennis Scott, Allan Houston, Rick Barry, Pistol Pete Maravich, Peja Stojakovic, Dirk Nowitzki, Paul Pierce, Stephen Curry, Wesley Person, George Gervin, Alex English, Hal Greer, Michael Redd, Michael Jordan or Chris Mullin.

Trust me, I want to put Mullin on this list. Sorry Chris.

There's a good chance this guy, five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant, will make his share of lists, but is he one of the 10 best to ever play this game? What do you think?

Starting next month, I’m going to put out a variety of lists to spark debate on who are the greatest players to do work in the NBA. I’ll keep it going right up until the NBA season opener late next month.

For starters, got to rate the top 10 players of all time, but I’m going to take it a step further, folks.

I want to discuss the top 10 players under six feet tall and 7-foot or taller.

The greatest little man ever is Allen Iverson, or is it Nate “Tiny” Archibald? As for the big fellas, Wilt Chamberlain gets the old school nod, but give me Hakeem Olajuwon with his “Dream Shake.”

How about the top 10 teams to never win an NBA title? The 1987-88 Atlanta Hawks, with Dominique Wilkins in his prime, lost to the Boston Celtics in seven games in the Eastern Conference semifinals, but I’d put them up against any team today and they’d have their way with most teams.

Stephen Curry has answered all the questions about whether he was too slight in stature to shine early in the NBA.

Ya’ll know Stephen Curry is my guy.

Just do a search of his name on my blog to find out.

When making my predictions for the 2009-10 NBA season, I thought the rookie of the year award would come down to Blake Griffin of Oklahoma and Curry, who was the most exciting college player while at Davidson.

Since Griffin, the top pick in the 2009 draft, had a major injury that cost him the season, (Darn L.A. Clippers curse), Curry became my choice by process of elimination.

For months, people have essentially given the award to Sacramento point guard Tyreke Evans out of Memphis, but Curry has been playing better and better as has his team.

The argument against Curry was the Warriors were a bad team. They still are but the Warriors are 5-5 in their last 10 days. The Kings? 1-9. Both teams are 24-54.

Being part of Don Nelson becoming the all-time winningest coach in NBA history will help Curry, but his play should merit enough to take home the honor.
