Point guard Cedric Jackson is looking to once again make his way to the NBA through the Erie BayHawks.

The following eight players have been invited to the Erie BayHawks’ training camp that begins Saturday, Nov. 6 at the LECOM Medical Fitness & Wellness Center in Erie.

The BayHawks can have up to 17 players in training camp. Erie opens the 2010-11 season Nov. 19 against Springfield at Tullio Arena.

▀  PG Cedric Jackson – Averaged 16.4 points and 7.4 assists in 34 games for the BayHawks as a rookie last season, The 6-foot, 3-inch, Jackson, 24, received NBA call ups from the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards.

▀   PG Maureece Rice – Avg. 18.7 points to help Erie make the D-League playoffs in its expansion season in 2008-09. Erie tried to get the 6-1 combo guard last season, but Rice, 26, couldn’t get out of his contract with a team in the Ukraine. The Philadelphia native was an exciting player for Erie and was really the difference in the BayHawks making the playoffs.

The Springfield Armor have had enough of Mike Gansey.

Last Wednesday, Gansey made two free throws with 5.2 seconds left to beat the Armor in Erie, 95-94. He finished with a game-high 25 points after missing five games with a bruised calf.

Today, he hit the game-winning basket with eight seconds left as the BayHawks (12-16) won, 93-91, at Springfield (5-19). Once again, Gansey was the high-point man with 27 points. He played all 48 minutes for the second straight game in a back-to-back situation.

The Erie BayHawks folded at the end.

They were up 76-73 with two minutes and 42 seconds left in the game after power forward Alade Aminu scored three straight baskets in the paint area.

The BayHawks didn’t score again until Mike Gansey made a lay up with three seconds left as they lost 82-78 to the expansion Red Claws, who are 5-0 against them.

What happened in between?

“That’s the fight that I have right now. I mean, even though I’m hurt and we a man down already so. We’ve got to do anything to get a win. If they would have had to cut it off, I was playing tonight. We just needed a win bad.”

Clinkscales is all heart for Erie.

You’ve got to love his heart.

There he was. Cliff Clinkscales. The pride of Jamacia Queens, N.Y.

He had just knocked down a jump shot in the second half of Erie’s 95-94 win against Springfield and landed on an Armor defender.

Badly twisting his right ankle, Clinkscales got up, got back on defense and kept playing until the whistle blew. He limped off the court and later returned to the game.

He ended the game limping onto the court to congratulate Jackie Manuel for his defensive stop on Morris Almond to seal the game for Erie, but Clinkscales days’ may be numbered in Erie.
