Venerable J.C. Martin Golf Course, the only course in Erie’s city limits, received over $50,000 for a short-game practice facility hopefully installed in 2014 after a benefit tournament honoring the late Robert H. ‘Spider’ Rutkowski on Saturday, Aug. 17.
Jim Rutkowski, general manager of Industrial Sales & Manufacturing Co. and Spider’s nephew, said there were three shotgun starts, including one at 7 a.m. in honor of his uncle, a longtime employee at Erie Insurance Exchange who always preferred the earliest starting times.
Many golfers work or worked at Erie Insurance.
An aut0graphed painting of Arn0ld Palmer was donated and is in the JCM Clubhouse.
J.C. Martin also has benefitted by an AJGA tournament (juniors) and youth clinics headed by Kahkwa Club head pro Michael O’Connor along with an annual outing that has raised money in six figures for restoration of the course where many learned the game in their youth.
