Deer of the day (Nov. 1)

Kathleen Filipkowski, of Harborcreek Township, made her first hunting season with her new bow a special one. She killed her 10-point piebald buck early in the archery season in Greene Township.

Filipkowski had missed a doe from 20 yards and was notching a second arrow when she heard noise behind her stand. She shot at the buck from 15 yards.

“I watched the deer walk away and thought for sure I had missed this one to,” she said. “I was ready to throw my new bow.”

The buck fell within 30 yards of her stand.
