No. 1 most endangered river: Susquehanna

The Susquehanna River charts at No. 1 on American Rivers’ 2011 list of most endangered rivers because of environmental dangers posed by fracking of Marcellus Shale.

The river is the largest contained entirely within the United States that drains into the Atlantic Ocean, with a 27,500-mile watershed that also stretches into Maryland and New York. Good luck trying to drive through eastern Pennsylvania without encountering the Susquehanna.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission also has been keeping a close eye on the Susquehanna because of light bass populations.
