New fish consumption advisories added for NW Pa. waters

Two streams in northwestern Pennsylvania and another in McKean County are among those affected by changes to the state’s fish consumption advisories announced today.

Anglers are advised to limit meals to two per month because of mercury contamination for walleye caught in French Creek from the confluence of Mill Creek, at Utica, to the mouth in Venango County.

At Brokenstraw Creek, in Warren County, the advisory is now in effect from Hare Creek to the mouth instead of from the confluence of Little Brokenstraw Creek to the mouth of Brokenstraw Creek. The advisory suggests a two-meals-per-month policy for suckers because of mercury.

Tunungwant Creek, in McKean County, now has a two-meals-per-mont advisory for suckers from the confluence of the East and West Branches to the New York border.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the state departments of Environmental Protection and Health and Agriculture added three new advisories, increased the restrictions on one advisory and eased or lifted four advisories Friday. Advisories apply only to fish caught recreationally.
