Congratulations to the Lake Edinboro Sportsman Club, which captured the Erie-Crawford Trap League Championship Thursday night with a 13-1 record.

Exhibition shooter Tim Bradley will be part of Family Field Day Oct. 7 at Corry Rod & Gun Club, Route 957 Columbus.

Bradley is a member of Team Benelli U.S.A. who uses shotguns, .22, pistol and a scoped rifle — left-handed and right-handed — in his exhibitions. He shoots golf balls, playing cards and as many as nine clay targets at once in midair.

Bring your shotgun and rifle to shoot skeet, trap, wobble trap, games and running Deer. There also will be air rifles and pistols to try. Children ages 8-17 may shoot a round for free with the purchase of a ticket.

Shooting starts at 10 a.m. and the Bradley show starts at 1 p.m. Tickets for those 15 and older are $15 each. Tickets for those ages 6-14 are $7 each. Proceeds go to the Corry Area High School trapshooting club.

There will be free T-shirts for the first 50 children; hunt giveaways by Pheasants Forever, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Mossy Oak, Zink Calls and Dan Bump; vendor booths; a Chinese auction, and food by L&L Good Eats.

Pine Grove Sportsmen’s Association will put on the Save a Pair for Breast Cancer Awarensss shoot July 22 at 9 a.m. at the club, 2344 Egypt Hollow Road, Russell. The shoot will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The 50-target singles shoot is open to all. Entry fee is $30 and includes targets, a drawing ticket, t-shirt, meal tickets and drink. The winner in a shoot-off will go  home with a Beretta 391 SC.

There also will be a free ladies-only .22 rifle event — shooters will have 2 minutes to take 10 shots. Ammunition and rifles will be provided by Pine Grove.

The Sheffield Area Middle/High School Scholastic Youth Trap Team will be presented with a check for $20,000 by the National Wild Turkey Federation Saturday at 7 p.m. on the stage at the Sheffield Fireman’s Festival.

The Scholastic Shooting Trust is providing $20,000 endowments to 33 high school and collegiate shooting teams and organizations. The endowments were made possible by NWTF members through funds raised at NWTF events.

Regional director Walt Bingaman and regional biologist Kristen Giger will make the presentation to coaches Marie Kibbey and Joe Leichtenberger.

Junior trapshooting teams from Lake Edinboro Sportsman’s League returned from the Pennsylvania State Sportsmen’s Association Shoot June 8-9 in Elysburg with two first-place wins, two third places and the junior high gun award.

The two-day competition included the Amateur Trapshooting Association’s Academics Integrity Marksmanship State Championship and the Scholastic Clay Target Program State Championship. The LESL junior teams are composed of 29 shooters from Erie and Crawford counties.

In the ATA/AIM competition, two LESL teams claimed first-place wins. In the Sub Junior category, the Odd Squad won with a composite score of 440 out of 500 hits, with Matt Kirby breaking 93 out of 100. Doug Birchard hit 92 targets, Jacob Meszaros 91, Zoe Rupert 87 and Ryan Kirdahy 77.

In the Junior category, the Young Guns scored 486 out of 500. All five members of the squad hit at least 95 of their 100 targets, and Frank Myers IV brought down all 100 to earn high gun. Casey Inks hit 98, Billy Therasse had 97, Mitchel Meszaros shot 96 and Josh Zelina hit 95.

In the SCTP championship, Team Squirrel Bait finished third in the Intermediate level and Top Shots was third in the Intermediate Advanced level.

Billy Therasse and Zane Berger each broke 99 of 100 targets in the SCTP event. Garrett Pude and Mitchel Meszaros each hit 98 targets and Rupert had the first 25 straight score.

The Lake Edinboro Sportsman Club junior varsity trap-shooting team is headed to Sparta, Ill., July 23 – 24, to compete for a national title. The team won the Pennsylvania Scholastic Clay Target Program championship in Elysburg recently. Team members Josh Zelina, Billy Therasse, Frank Myers, Casey Inks and Mitch Meszaros were runners-up in 2009 and hope to win it all this year.



Two youth teams from Lake Edinboro Sportsman Club won titles Sunday in Elysburg at the Pennsylvania Scholastic Clay Target Program championship trapshoot.

The Junior Varsity team and the Intermediate team each took first place in their classes, bringing Lake Edinboro’s total state championships to eight since the scholastic program was started in 2002.

Lake Edinboro Sportsman’s League’s Young Guns finished as runner-up in the 31-team Intermediate-Advanced class at the Scholastic Clay Target Program National Championship trapshooting event in Sparta, Ill.

The team of Frank Myers, Bill Therasse, Casey Inks, Mitchel Meszaros, Josh Zelina  and Ben Zelina broke 916 out of 1,000 targets, finishing six birds off the first-place score of the A&A Shooters Eagles from California.

Myers shot back-to-back 97s to lead the Pennsylvania champion Young Guns. Lake Edinboro, coached by Greg Lucas, is annually one of the top trap teams in the country.

More than 1,800 shooters from the across the country took part in the program’s trap, skeet and sporting clays national championships.
