Lake Erie checks in at No. 4 on Bassmaster’s 100 Best Bass Fishing Lakes in the United States.

“If you want to catch a smallmouth over 6 pounds, this is your best bet in the country,” according to Bassmaster’s web site. “Also, if you want to have 100-fish days, it’s likely to happen here.”

Bassmaster said it compiled its rankings over a series of months and included research from state fisheries agencies, nominations from B.A.S.S. Federation Nation tournament organizers and a panel of professional anglers, fishing writers and others.

Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna River and Lake Wallenpaupack also turn up on the list. No. 1 is Falcon Lake, Texas.
