FLW Outdoors, the organization that puts on the world’s most lucrative bass fishing event and runs a series of tiered pro tournaments, is bringing two events to Erie Sept. 9-11.

The organizers hope you’ll be willing to help make both events successful.

The American Fishing Series Northern Division tournament on Lake Erie will take place all three days, with public weigh-ins starting at 2:30 p.m. each day at Presque Isle State Park. The winner could earn as much as $25,000 and possibly a new Ranger boat.

The FLW National Guard College Fishing event on Lake Erie is in need of more than weigh-in spectators: Organizers need 40 volunteers who can bring their own boats.

Volunteers will launch the boat ahead of the 6 a.m. pre-tournament meeting to be prepared for the 6:30 a.m. takeoff. They’ll also run the boat’s main motor and serve as boat captain. College anglers run the trolling motor and determine fishing spots.

What volunteers won’t do: Fish or net fish; provide tackle or PFDs; or provide or help obtain GPS coordinates, fishing locations or specific bait information for college anglers.

FLW Outdoors will provide a net, culling clips, measuring board and Rejuvenade.

Takeoff and weigh-in are at Presque Isle State Park.

Erie will play host to Stren Series and National Guard FLW College Fishing bass tournaments in September 2010.

The Stren Series Northern Division tournament will take place Sept. 9-11, and the Northern Division college event will occur Sept. 11. Both events are part of circuits put on by FLW Outdoors, the world’s largest fishing tournament organization.

FLW Outdoors released its complete 2010 circuit schedules today.

Stren Series anglers are up-and-coming pros and co-anglers as well as established stars such as Union City’s Dave Lefebre, who will compete in the $100,000-to-win series championship Nov. 5-7 in Florence, Ala.

Full-time students at four-year colleges and universities that sponsor bass fishing clubs are eligible for no-fee entry into College Fishing tournaments. The first-year circuit awards scholarships as well as prizes to be split between winners’ fishing clubs and institutions. Boats are provided and the two-angler teams receive travel allowances.
