Want to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count Feb. 15-18 but not sure what it’s all about? Take part in a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service webinar today from 2-3 p.m. to get all the answers.

In short, the Great Backyard Bird Count is a worldwide bird data collection program that helps a number of agencies keep track of bird populations. To take part, you commit to count birds in one spot for at least 15 minutes on one of the four days of the count.

Create a free account on the Great Backyard Bird Count website and submit your checklist, or lists from multiple days of birdwatching.

Presque Isle Audubon Society also will have a bird count event Feb. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon at Shelter 2 at Presque Isle State Park. It’s free and open to the public, and will include information displays and crafts for children.

PIAS said more than 70 checklists featuring 61 species were submitted from its 2012 event.
