A reminder that the second annual Great Lakes Steelhead Expo is scheduled for Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 pm. at Rainbow Gardens, 3100 West Lake Road.

Admission to the Pennsylvania Steelhead Association-sponsored event is $15 per person, and free for those 15 and younger who are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

More than 40 vendors are scheduled to attend. Ox roast, hot dogs and beverages will be served throughout the day.

Three speakers also will appear:

April Vokey is an ambassador for Patagonia, the host of Buccaneers & Bones and a fishing guide on the Dean River in British Columbia. She also writes for several magazines including Fly Fusion Magazine. She is a world famous fly-tier specializing in Northwest patterns.

George Daniel, a Pennsylvania resident and member of the U.S. Fly Fishing team, is the author of “Dynamic Nymphing.” He will autograph his books after his presentation.

Mike Bleech, Erie Times-News outdoors writer, has published more than 5,000 articles in more than 100 publications since 1980.

The second annual Great Lakes Steelhead Expo is scheduled for Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rainbow Gardens.

The Erie Sports Commission said the expo will be expanded to include seminars with fly fishing experts including April Vokey and George Daniel.

Vokey is an ambassador for Patagonia clothing, apparel and gear company, host of the Outdoor Channel’sBuccaneers & Bones” and a fly-tier specializing in northwestern steelhead patterns.

Daniel, a Potter County native, is a member of Fly Fishing Team USA, a two-time U.S. national champion and a lecturer and author.

The expo is put on by members of the Erie-based Pennsylvania Steelhead Association. More than 1,100 people are expected to travel to participate in the expo, which is scheduled to include more than 50 national and local vendors.

Entry fee is $15, and admission is free for children 15 and younger who are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Pennsylvania Steelhead Association will have its monthly meeting Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 773, 4109 W. 12th St.

Included on the agenda is an update on speakers, sponsors and vendors for the second annual Great Lakes Steelhead Expo Nov. 3, as well as a preview of the steelhead fishing season.

The meeting is free and open to the public and new members.

Sign up to fish in the catch-and-release tournament associated with the Great Lakes Steelhead Expo Nov. 5 at Rainbow Gardens.

Register in advance by Nov. 4 at Elk Creek Sports Store, Poor Richard’s Bait & Tackle, and Lake Erie Ultimate Angler, or from 6-8 a.m. Nov. 5 at Tim Hortons, 27745 W. 26th St.

Entry fee is $10 per person and $20 per team.

Contestants must sign up in teams to verify catches. Contestants also must buy $15 tickets to the expo in order to turn in their results.

The tournament is open to all licensed anglers. Fishing does not have to be done in Pennsylvania. Fishing takes place Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cash prizes and plaques will be awarded in several categories.
