Jared Dikeman, of North East, shot a gorgeous 9-point while hunting in Wattsburg.

Dikeman’s deer was one of the finalists for the NWPA Outdoors Deer of the Year. Voting ended Dec. 31; watch for the public vote winner and an editor’s choice winner Jan. 6 in the Erie Times-News sports section and at NWPAOutdoors.com.

Your trophy buck could become the NWPA Outdoors 2012 Deer of the Year.

Enter your deer in the contest at goerie.com/deeroftheyear between Nov. 26 and Dec. 10 at 11:59 p.m. After a public voting period from Dec. 12-31, the Deer of the Year will be announced Jan. 6 in the Erie Times-News and on www.GoErie.com, along with an Editor’s Choice pick.

Deer legally harvested during any 2012-13 seasons are eligible. If you’ve already submitted a photo to the Times-News or to the GoErie Hunting and Fishing gallery, you’ll need to enter your photo again for contest purposes.

The contest is open only to individuals who are 18 years or older at time of entry. Entrants must have either harvested their deer in the Northwest Region or reside in the Northwest Region and have harvested their deer in Pennsylvania.

The Perchin’ on Lake Erie yellow perch tournament is scheduled for July 28 out of North East Marina.

The grand prize is $300, with prizes awarded through 20th place. There’s also a $100 big fish award, door prizes and a 50/50.

Registered anglers may weigh in five perch legally caught the day of the tournament and 7 inches or longer. Tournament weigh-in is from 2-6 p.m.

Adult entry for anglers 13 and older is $15 each. Junior division registration for 12 and under is $10 each. Entry deadline is July 28 at 8 a.m. There will be a free pancake breakfast from 6-8 a.m. for all registered participants.
