INDIANAPOLIS — Former Mercyhurst Prep swimmer Marie Georger recorded a preliminary time of 2 minutes, 15.59 seconds in the women’s 200-meter backstroke during Wednesday’s action at the Phillips 66 National Championships.
Georger, 19, was in 22nd place after the preliminary heats. She did not post a time low enough to advance to the event championship final or its two consolation races.
The five-time PIAA gold medalist qualified for the national meet through the University of Michigan, where she recently completed her freshman season.
Georger was seeded 30th out of 46 entrants with a time of 2:14.77.
Missy Franklin, a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, was the overall winner with a meet record 2:05.68. She holds the world record in the women’s 200 back at 2:04.06.
Franklin and silver medalist Elizabeth Pelton became eligible to compete in the 2013 world championships, scheduled July 16-Aug. 4 at Barcelona, Spain.
