Edinboro wrestler Mitchell Port will wrestle for the 141-pound title in the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships tonight in Evansville, Ill., on live national television.
Port, the No. 1 seed and top-ranked 141-pounder in the nation, will face unseeded Steven Rodrigues of Illinois in the finals. The tourney’s title bouts will be televised live on Big Ten Network beginning at 9 p.m.
Port advanced to the championship match this afternoon with a pin at the 6-minute 53-second mark against Pat Greco of Northwestern, the tournament’s host team.
Port’s teammate, 133-pounder A,.J. Schopp, will wrestle for third place today. Schopp, seeded No. 1, beat former Reynolds High School star Mason Beckman of Lehigh 5-0 to advance to the third-place match. Earlier in the semifinals, Schopp lost to Northern Iowa’s fourth-seeded Joe Colon 3-0.
