North East graduate Kathy Herman, a freshman swimmer at Converse College, was named to the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll. Student-athletes with a 3.2 grade-point average or higher make the conference honor roll.
Herman placed third last weekend in the 1,650-yard freestyle (20 minutes, 36.18 seconds) at the Viking Classic hosted by Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga. Herman also was the Valkyries’ lead-off swimmer on the winning 800 free relay team, which set the pool record (8:26.06). She also scored points for the team in the 100 free and was on the fourth-place 200 free relay squad.
She will complete in the Blue Mountain Conference Championships Feb. 12-15 in Charlotte, N.C.
• Several former area athletes were named to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. The PAC Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who have earned a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher.
Koper, a defensive back who majors in biology, played mainly on special teams this past season. He had 14 kick returns for 245 yards (17.5 yards-per-return average). He also had three tackles on special teams.
Jones, an English major, paced Westminster with an 11th-place finish at the PAC championship with a career-best time of 23 minutes, 29:50 seconds. She was named second-team all-PAC in cross country for the third straight year.
