It’s official.

After barreling over No. 12 Bloomsburg (8-2, 5-2 PSAC East) by a 52-14 score today, No. 13 Kutztown (9-1, 6-1 PSAC East) has reached the PSAC title game.

The Golden Bears will play host to No. 14 Slippery Rock (8-2, 6-1 PSAC West) in next week’s conference championship game. Since Gannon was scheduled to play Kutztown in the regular-season finale, the Knights will play the team Slippery Rock was scheduled to play.

So Gannon (4-6, 3-4 PSAC West) will play at C.W. Post (6-4, 6-1 PSAC East), which won 42-27 today against Cheyney.

This season, Edinboro junior tight end Shawn Walker has caught four passes for 51 yards./Photo by Christopher Millette of the Erie Times-News

At 6-foot-4, 247 pounds, Shawn Walker looks like an NFL tight end.

Coming out of General McLane High, he was recruited like he could become one as several Division I schools wanted him. Walker was an all-state player in two sports when the Lancers won the 2006 PIAA Class AAA football title and 2007 PIAA Class AAA basketball title.

However, Walker hasn’t put up the kind of numbers you’d figureĀ  someone of his talent would. Heading into his junior season this year, Walker had just 32 catches for 336 yards and four touchdowns, but Edinboro coach Scott Browning said Walker is having a “fine career.”

Last season, Walker was a second-team All-PSAC West pick, but didn’t catch a touchdown. He didn’t catch a pass in this season’s opener, but had four for 51 yards last week against Merrimack.

Browning said he has three tight ends in Walker, redshirt freshman Blaine Iskula (6-5, 255) and junior Seth Hembree (6-7, 250) and no one has become the” front runner.” Iskula has four catches for 16 yards while Hembree has two catches for 35 yards this season.

Browning then talked about the team having talent at the other skilled positions, but someone of Walker’s talent should be catching more passes even if there is a bunch of talent around him right?

So how does Walker feel about all this? Erie Times-News sports reporter Duane Rankin visited him at Edinboro earlier this week to find out as Scots (2-0) play PSAC East foe Cheyney (1-1) at home Saturday at 1 p.m.

Sox Harrison Stadium hasn’t been so kind to Scott Browning.

In his five seasons at Edinboro’s head coach, Browning, 52, has compiled a 38-19 record. Two of his teams have tied a school record for most wins in a season with nine. In 2009, he led the Scots to the NCAA Division II playoffs.

However, the Scots are 14-13 at home under Browning. In his first year, they lost four home games and last season, they were 2-3 at Sox Harrison Stadium.

On the flip side, Edinboro is a sparkling 24-6 on the road under Browning. In 2008, the Scots were a perfect 6-0 away from Sox Harrison Stadium and last season, they went 5-1 in road games.

A constant in this whole thing is California (Pa.) in the sense that Browning has yet to beat the Vulcans. Cal is the only PSAC team he hasn’t beaten.

Looking at this season’s schedule, Edinboro’s home games are against West Liberty (W.Va.), Merrimack, Cheyney, Slippery Rock (homecoming), Clarion and Lock Haven.

Last season, the Scots beat West Liberty, Cheyney, Clarion and Lock Haven, but lost to Slippery Rock. They didn’t play Merrimack.

And if history means anything, the Scots have a better chance of beating Cal at its place than at Sox Harrison Stadium. They play at Cal on Nov. 5.
