Here’s a bit of info for area women’s basketball fans: Former Gannon coach Cleve Wright has signed his first recruit with the Miami (Ohio) program.

Rachel Goddard of Wadsworth, Ohio signed with the RedHawks Thursday. The 5-foot 6-inch point guard averaged 13.0 points and 3.1 assists per game as a senior.

Wright left Gannon after 11 seasons to become Miami’s head coach on April 19.

Cleve Wright has completed a highly successful run as the Gannon women’s basketball coach and has accepted the head coaching position at Miami (Ohio).

He was introduced at a news conference today in Oxford, Ohio.

The Gannon and Edinboro women’s basketball teams dominated the regular season in the PSAC West, and today they cleaned up in the conference’s postseason awards.

Gannon’s Cleve Wright and Jen Papich and Edinboro’s Samanta Blazetic and Aignee Freeland won major awards. Gannon also placed one player among the first-team all-stars and three on the second team. Edinboro had two first-team stars.
