Miami of Ohio is 7-15 overall and 3-8 in the Mid-American Conference in Cleve Wright’s first season in Division I, but the former Gannon women’s basketball coach already started the recruiting process to put his signature on the RedHawks’ program.
In November, Wright signed three players in the early signing period.
Kayla Brown, a 6-2 forward from Westfield, Ind., Baleigh Reid, a 5-10 guard from Twinsburg, Ohio, and Ana Richter, a forward an hometown product in Oxford, Ohio, where Miami U. is located.
Brown is a preseason All-State selection bv Hoosier Basketball Magazine as a 4-year starter at Westfield High School. Reid is in her fourth varsity season at Twinsburg High, which won 2 Ohio state titles in 2011 and 2012. Richter averaged 18.5 points, 9.4 rebounds, and was named First-Team All-State at Talawanda High School in Oxford.
“Our 2014 recruiting class is a talented group of young ladies who understand the commitment it takes to be successful,” said Wright. They are not only great players, but they are also quality people.”
Wright left Gannon as the winningest coach at the Division II school after the 2012-13 season, leading the Knights to a 31-5 record and second Elite Eight appearance in 4 seasons.
