This past season Beiter won the District 10 Class AA title at 195 pounds, placed third at the Northwest Regional and qualified for the PIAA tournament. He was a two-time section champion and a two-time first-team Region 3 all-star. He also was an Erie Times-News District 10 All-Star after finishing his senior season with a 29-5 record.

Beiter plans to major in mechanical engineering.

Gannon has officially added the women’s sport of acrobatics and tumbling, a hyrbid sport that features components of gymnastics and competitive cheer.

Gannon, the 10th college to sponsor the sport nationally, also hired the program’s first coach. Former University of Oregon All-American Chelsea White will guide the Knights as the team prepares for its first season in the spring of 2014. Oregon is the three-time defending national champion, and White competed on the 2011 and 2012 title teams.

Gannon expects to have a roster of about 40 student-athletes. A total of 28 women make up a meet-day roster. A typical meet features two to four teams, which compete in six events: compulsory, acro, pyramid, toss, tumbling and team.

The sport is governed by the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association, but officials hope the sport eventually is sanctioned by the NCAA.
