Final: Pitt rolls past New Mexico 49-27. McDowell grad James Conner, a true freshman, finished with a game-high 119 yards and two touchdowns on 12 rushes. He scored on runs of 1 and 38 yards. Isaac Bennett added 101 yards and two TDs on 14 carries, while true freshman receiver Tyler Boyd caught six passes for 136 yards and a TD. He also rushed twice for 39 yards and a TD. Pitt improved to 1-1.
Update 7: James Conner rips off runs of 9, 9 and 10 yards on consecutive carries, and he has his first 100-yard game as a college player. Conner has 119 yards on 12 carries as Pitt leads New Mexico 49-20 midway through the fourth quarter.
Update 6: New Mexico scored a touchdown after Conner’s fumble. Pitt leads 43-20 going into the fourth quarter.
Update 5: James Conner had his first negative play of the game. On his first carry of the third quarter, he fumbles and New Mexico recovers. Conner now has 9 carries for 91 yards and 2 TDs. Pitt leads 42-13 late in the third quarter.
Update 4: James Conner finishes the first half with 87 yards on eight carries, along with his first two touchdowns — from 1 and 38 yards. Clairton grad Tyler Boyd makes a 34-yard TD catch on the final play of the half. He has 4 catches for 116 yards and has scored 2 TDs. Pitt leads New Mexico 35-6 at the half.
Update 3: James Conner scores his 2nd TD of the first half, rumbling in from 38 yards in the second quarter. He now has 87 yards on seven carries as Pitt leads 28-6.
Update No. 2: James Conner gets his first college touchdown with Pitt, scoring from 1-yard out after a career-best 20-yard run to the 1. Pitt leads 21-3 New Mexico after one quarter.
Conner finished the first quarter with 49 yards on just six carries.
Update No. 1: Pitt took an early 14-3 lead over New Mexico today at Heinz Field.
McDowell graduate James Conner, a true freshman, picked up 28 yards on his first four carries, including a 14-yard gain.
Clairton grad Tyler Boyd, another true freshman who earlier had a 51-yard reception, scored Pitt’s second TD on a 33-yard run.
