The No. 8-ranked Bloomsburg Huskies (2-0) are traveling to Indiana, Pa. to face the IUP Crimson Hawks (1-0) tonight at 8. CBS Sports Network is televising the game live from George P. Miller Stadium.

For IUP, which won its season opener last week under new coach Curt Cignetti, 28-13, against East Stroudsburg, this is chance to reestablish itself as a national power. Cignetti, the son of legendary IUP coach Frank Cignetti, replaced former Edinboro coach Lou Tepper.

For local interest, this is a chance to check out two local players from Erie that are starting for the Crimson Hawks  – senior receiver Javon Rowan and senior safety Andre Henderson. Henderson made two tackles last week.

IUP officials confirmed Rowan didn’t play last week because of “undisclosed team issues,” but he is expected to play tonight.

As for Bloomsburg, it has a four-game winning streak going against IUP. The Huskies are coming off a 45-10 win at Clarion.

Knowing for its running game, Bloomsburg is averaging a hefty 324.5 yards rushing. Sophomore Franklyn Quiteh, who rushed for 2,015 yards last season, is leading the team in rushing this season with 258 yards and a touchdown, but re-injured his ankle against Clarion.

Quiteh, who hurt it in the season opener, is expected to play tonight.

Sophomore Eddie Mateo replaced him and rushed for 179 yards and five touchdowns, which tied a school record. The Stony Brook transfer earned PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week honors.

On Wednesday evening, Erie Times-News staff writer Duane Rankin did a phone interview with with Gannon senior defensive tackle Randy Colling’s high school coach, Jim Duprey.

Playing for Duprey at Pioneer High School, Colling was a first-team all-state pick and was named the All-Western New York Section VI Class A South Defensive Player of the Year. Here’s what Duprey had to say about how Gannon recruited Colling, an Arcade, N.Y., native, and what he  has become for the Knights.

Who was recruiting him for football? “He had a lot of visitors as you can imagine. He had a lot of mail and everything. The big thing with Randy is he had a lot of people pursuing him for wrestling. There were coaches from all up and down the east coast both for wrestling and football. A lot of Pennsylvania schools were looking at him. He could chose either one of those and been very successful.”

For football outside of Stony Brook, any other D-1 schools that wanted him? “I know UB (University of Buffalo) came out and made several visits with him and everything. So that was probably the biggest one in the area that came out to see him.”
