Former Gannon University and McDowell basketball stalwart Tyler Stoczynski’s second season as head coach of the Highlands boys basketball team has been more rewarding record-wise as the season reached the final week.
Highlands is 8-13 this season after the Golden Rams went 1-21 in Stoczynski’s first season at the Natrona Heights, Pa. AAA school in the WPIAL.
The 6-7 Stoczynski was a 3-year starter at Gannon, where his father Neal played in the mid-70s, with the Knights reaching the Division Elite Eight in his senior season 2008-09. His dad’s team was the first to make it that far in 1974-75. He starred at McDowell from 2002 to 2004. Stoczynski married former Gannon women’s basketball star Carrie Nolan in the past summer. Nolan played high school ball at Girard and scored more than 1,000 points with the Lady Knights.
