Oil Creek 100 news, notes

I received the following note from Tom Madura (Erie’s original barefoot runner).

A friend of mine is running the Oil Creek 100 (mile) trail run next Saturday (10/8).

As motivation he is raising money for a charity called SPECIAL OPERATIONS WARRIOR FOUNDATION:

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of Special Operations personnel who die in operational or training missions, and immediate financial assistance to severely wounded Special Operations personnel and their families.

The Warrior Foundation has served over 800 children who survive more than 700 Special Operations personnel who gave their lives in service to their country.  These include Special Operators who died fighting our nation’s war against terrorism, as part of “Operation Enduring Freedom” in Afghanistan and the Philippines; as well as “Operation Iraqi Freedom.”

He is looking for pledges of as little as $1 to meet his goal of raising $2000 – he’s currently at $1850.

Here is a link to the Website to donate.

Speaking of the OC100 Ultra Trail Runs….

Several Erie-area folks are participating in one of the Oil Creek 100 Trail Runs this weekend. There are three distances — the 50K, 100K and 100-mile.

All three events are SOLD OUT and some of those spots were sold to Erie area runners, including Linda and Dan Young (50K and 100-mile, respectively), Christine Vassen (one-half of the Marathon Mamma girls who guest-posted their marathon experience here at Runner’s Notes), Karen Manganaro and Melissa Pastore who are all running the 50K.

See who else is running: 50K list  here. 100K list here. 100-Mile  list here.

Get more info about the OC100 races  here.

It’s going to be a beautiful weekend to take a drive. Why not head out to Titusville and cheer on these ultra athletes?

Thanks for forwarding my message Heather.
Dave will certainly appreciate any help he gets raising money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

And a big, sincere “GOOD LUCK!” to all the ERC folks participating in the OC100 runs this weekend! I am in awe of anyone who even attempts these kind of runs!
