Law Day results & photos

The Law Day 5K, held Saturday morning in downtown Erie, saw a growth of 55+ participants this year for a total of 339 finishers!

The bump in participation could have to do with the race being the first leg of the ERC’s Summer Triple Crown Series. The next two events in the series are the Knights of Columbus race (5K or 10K) in Harborcreek on July 4 and the Race for Recovery (5K or 15K) on Sept. 30 at Presque Isle State Park.

Saturday was cold, but sunny —nice racing weather.  The race leaders set a quick pace.  Top three men overall at Law Day were: Andy Holland with a 16:36 (that’s a 5:21 pace!); Adam Rowe with a 17:43; and Tony Mastroberardino with a solid 18:00.  Top three women overall were: Andrea Patmore with a 20:15 (a 6:32 pace); Pamela Wassell with a 21:23; and Dawn Betza with a 21:47.

GoErie’s Street View photographer, Mike Conway, was there, too. Check out 100+ photos here.

I ran Saturday & had my best 5K time in, well, years. Thanks to weight training & a new eating plan, I’m lighter and stronger than I’ve ever been, and I was thinking I had a shot at my own P.R. (22:20).  I fell short, finishing in 22:59, but, I was elated to be under 23 minutes.   My P.R. is 12 years old and it was at the VA 5K, which is a purely downhill course, but I still think I can beat it this year.  That’s right, I’m on a mission to outrun my 28-year-old self now!
